Hello everyone

Just over a week to go until the first ever Brightside Festival and everything is looking great.

I just wanted to send a message out with the final set times and a little more information about each act.

  • Between Acts, throughout the day – Al Watson

Between each set, we have the honour to welcome a very special guest; The Great Al Watson.

Al will be a familiar name and face to a few of you, but did you know he was one of the reasons why The Who formed as a band?

The Who formed from an earlier group called The Detours.  Legend has it, the Detours formed as a direct result of seeing Al and his famous ‘Fury’ act, where his set culminated in smashing every piece of musical equipment on stage.

You may also be surprised to know that one of Al’s most famous works, “Soggy Truck”, apparently features as a sample in the seminal 80’s band Frankis Goes To Hollywood’s most famous track, Relax.

Also, without Al’s encouragement at an early, and it has to be said, vulnerable age, Robbie Williams would never have had the courage to go it alone.

The world owes him a great deal.

Al will be performing a rare acoustic set between each band throughout the day.  Al has said his agent asks that no-one films him, please, as he has had issues in the past with bootleg gig recordings getting sold online for extortionate sums – just enjoy the atmosphere instead.

  • 14:30 to 15:30 – The Jesus Bolt

Gerard Starkie has joined forces with Hazel Winter as ‘The Jesus Bolt’ . The band was initially masterminded to promote the release of Hazel’s book of poetry ’I’m Scared Of The Pig On The City Farm‘ (launching 22nd September). It has now rapidly transmogrified into a Proper Thing with songs and films and stuff. The first studio recordings will be out to coincide with the book launch in September.
